Crone Series - the drawings
The Crone Series explores various archetypes of old women through spirits, deities and other beings. These figures represent forms of feminine power that are inspired by ancient and mythic traditions.
The figure of the Crone was once recognised as holding knowledge of endings, transformation, and deep time. She was recognised in her many aspects: as deity, seer, healer, creator, trickster, and memory keeper. She was, and still is, the destroyer in service of renewal. In her body, death and rebirth are intimate companions.
Yet over the past millennia her vastness has been largely forgotten. The figures in my drawings rise from a lineage older than the hierarchies that tried to extinguish them. They stand as witnesses to cycles larger than culture and older than the world.
