Kikuyu Grass is considered a weed in Australia. It originally came from East Africa but was introduced to Australia because it is so hardy and easily grown. It can climb over other plant life, shading it out and producing herbicidal toxins that kill competing plants. It prevents new sprouts of other species from growing. It can kill small trees and choke ponds and waterways.
