This is a little frog that I found on my morning walk, it had been hit by a car.
I always feel privileged when I get a chance to draw animals up close like this. I feel gratitude to them, and I try and treat their bodies with respect.
It is very different drawing from life than from photographs. There is more information. Photos have already been translated into two dimensions, and there is so much that you can’t see: such as subtle changes in shape, where the body actually turns, how its limbs are joined, textures, the way it moves.
I never knew frogs had such big heads.
