Here she is, “Protected Owl Habitat”. I named her that because she is related to my Protected Habitat series. The difference being that the earlier Protected Habitat series are all watercolour drawings, and she is coloured pencil and acrylic paint on wood.

Owl Chick was my working title. I thought it was funny.

beginning stages

Here she is at an earlier stage. I drew her with coloured pencil, not knowing if I would add paint later or not. The white stuff is a structural medium to add some texture to the background.

If you want to see the very beginning stages, go to this post.

Here she is after I came in with some acrylic paint washes. I didn’t have a plan to start with, just went stage by stage with a lot of experimenting to see what would happen.

Then I just kept refining, adding more darks, more structure and more subtlety until I felt she was finished.
